The closest big mountain to Oslo, with a 1952 Olympic past.
Norefjell rises straight from Lake Krøderen to bare mountain, about 110 km from Oslo. It hosted the downhill and giant slalom at the 1952 Winter Olympics and still has one of the longest vertical drops in northern Europe. A spa hotel at the base makes it an easy ski-and-soak weekend.
Why it is a winter thing: The lifts and groomed runs only operate in the snow season.
Usually late November or early December to late April. Opening dates are announced each autumn.
