Ice fishing · Oslo
Drill a hole, drop a line, and wait in the quiet.
Pimpling — fishing through a hole in the ice — is a slow winter tradition, and Oslo’s forest lakes hold perch, trout and Arctic char. You ski or walk in, drill a hole with a hand auger and sit on a reindeer skin with a short rod. A fishing permit is required for adults.
Why it is a winter thing: It needs lake ice thick enough to walk on.
From late December or January, once the ice is safe, until March or April. Some spawning areas are protected.
Buy a fishing permit online before you go; check the local rules and protected areas.

No ice is guaranteed safe. Check the ice maps on varsom.no, keep away from inlets, outlets and dams, never go alone, and carry ice claws and a throw rope.
